History of antique Floor Tiles

Just a step back in time.

The motif antique ceramic tiles were made from 1840 till 1920. Sometimes certain patterns created 15 years long. Theantique motif tiles were made in France, Belgium, England and Germany (this is a known producer Villeroy & Boch).

The ceramic motif floor tiles were made in this time using white clay in a mold which was placed under a press. This press had another mold with patterns and colors on the blank tile should be placed. Initially the intention was to these patterns and colors a few mm in the floor tiles to print. But because the press gave such a high pressure, these patterns can total 0.5 mm to 10 mm in the floor tile printed. This makes the tiles after 100 years still remains as beautiful and bright. Once the tiles had the desired patterns were such a furnace. This oven was heated to about 1100 degrees. When the hot motif tiles were fired this piece jumps (through wells in the tiles) or they went ball. If the tiles were removed from the ovens and the operating temperature was cooled to the cold tile pattern too quickly and you get small cracks.
